Week 8 - Peaceful Surrender

This photo was taken at the Getty Villa. It was perfectly aligned to exhibit peaceful tranquility. From the alignment of the body to the arms with the brick arc and the tree.... The Sun was in it's 3' clock position casting a shadow from the tree in the picture. The texture of the light through the spaces in the tree's canopy creates a very beautiful and soft edged design on the back wall. We could capture this texture using a gobo perhaps. Upon closely examining the photo it becomes almost an optical illusion where you do not know where the tree's canopy ends and separates itself from the shadows; they almost mix together if you star at the center of the tree without blinking. It seems very peaceful with the alignment, the colors, the stillness, and and serenity coming from perfect balance and harmony. If I were to take one lighting element from this photo, I would want to replicate the textures coming from the tree's shadow and cast them upon a backwall and floor space as if suspending time in an unrealistic, peaceful, setting. I can imagine my character sitting/ laying in the middle of this suspension emanating a giant "Ohm".

The power of texture and visualization is incredible!
