Week 8: The Magic of Disney

I took this picture at the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland. Because it is an amusement park, there are many places where light is used for interest, invitation, or simply entertainment for visitors of the park. I chose this particular spot to take a picture because the lighting of the "Bug's Land" sign and "Tower of Terror" really interested me.
I was particularly curious about the difference between the two signs. I noticed how the "Bug's Land" sign was lit from the back. In class this has given a scarier intensifying glow, but because it is a colored light, it is seen as more inviting. Contrasted with the "Hollywood Tower" light which is at full light capacity. This is meant as a warning, beware, there is caution ahead. I love how simply how a sign is lit can give a viewer an invitation, or a warning. It is another example how color, and back/front lighting really change not just a look of a light, but an emotional response as well.

  1. The photo did not come through but I know what you are describing.

Nice analysis of the designers intention between the two worlds!
